Di ethylene glycol (DEG) also known as Ethylene diglycol or Diglycol is a colorless, odorless, and hygroscopic liquid that is used as a solvent and a chemical intermediate. It is produced by the ethoxylation of ethylene oxide with ethylene glycol. DEG is used in various industrial applications, such as the production of resins, plastics, and textiles, as well as in the manufacture of antifreeze and coolants. It is also used as a humectant in some personal care products and as a solvent in some pharmaceutical preparations. However, DEG can be toxic if ingested or inhaled in large amounts and can cause serious health effects, including kidney and liver damage, and even death. Therefore, proper handling, storage, and disposal of DEG are essential to prevent harmful exposure.
